Welcome to Study Bunny

Study Bunny is the marriage my two passions; education and nursing. Study Bunny is a resource for nursing students, would-be nursing students (i.e. those of you that are flirting with the idea of becoming a nurse) and current nurses. We can be Study Bunnies!

Nursing and nursing school is not for the weary of heart. The nursing programs are designed to make you make you into an impossible thing – you will be able to think critically, prioritize your tasks, manage the zoo, delegate,  predict the future, and be both hard and soft all at once.  It was the most grueling experience I have ever endured and I freaking loved it. To date, it is one of my greatest accomplishments and I’m so glad that I made the decision to quit teaching and work as an emergency room nurse.

36 Year Old Back in School

I went to nursing school at the ripe age of 36, leaving behind a 12 year career as a teacher. I was married with two kids when I left teaching to go back to school. Of course, I had no guarantee that  I would be accepted into the program; it had been 16 years since I had attended college. What could go wrong?

My husband and I were both public school teachers and we were living paycheck to paycheck.  Would I even be able to continue working? Would I fail out? Would I even like nursing? So many questions.  The truth is, I loved teaching. I was a work-a-holic; I loved being good at my job, doing a good job, and reaping the rewards of a successful day, week, or lesson. It was such a high to see the lightbulbs going off in the minds of my students – it kept me working harder, trying to be better. I was so committed to my student’s success that my principals gave me the keys to the building so that I could arrive extremely early to prepare for my custom lessons; they also used to have talks with the janitors instructing them to kick me out of the building late at night. Sounds crazy, right? I was a hard worker, but nothing compares to the hard work of studying to be a nurse. To this day, nursing school is the most challenging thing I have ever undertaken. Nurses know; that is why we respect each other so much – because we have all been there, through it, and out the other side.

The Training Never Ends

Nursing school is just the beginning of your training. The truth is that a nurse’s learning never ends; at least it shouldn’t. We are nurses. We are professionals and as time goes on our practice continues to change, just as the world changes (hello pandemic).  I learn  from my peers (thank you!), online, doctors, my facility educators (whoop whoop), trainings that I attend. And now after all this time, I’m going back to school to further my nursing education.

My point is that no matter where you are in your journey in nursing – we are in this together – you’ve got a Study Bunny. I have designed helpful hints, tips and tricks, organization materials to help you in your journey to being an amazing nurse.
